Kagamikhara HouseHouse that can view fireworks. A diversified space shaped by slit and tilted roof.

The fireworks show that takes place every year at the Kiso River is a symbol of summer for the local community. The clients wanted to be able to watch the fireworks from their home near the river. In response, the architects carved a horizontal slit in the simple shed roof, creating an outdoor gallery where residents and guests can line up to watch the show. Though the gallery was initially conceived for a once-a-year purpose, it also brings light and breezes into the home, creating a comfortable interior space year round.
